Pest Control: Prevention Always Comes First

Get rid of sources of shelter, water, and food.
Food should be stored in sealed plastic or glass containers. The trash bin where you throw your food scraps must be tightly covered and should be removed from your home on a regular basis.
Repair any leaky plumbing and never allow water to accumulate anywhere in the house. Never allow water to collect in trays under the refrigerator and under your house. Never leave water and pet food out overnight.
Clutter creates places for pests to hide and breed. They also make it difficult to get rid of pests. Remove things like stacks of cardboard, magazines, and newspapers. Close off any place where pests can get in and hide such as crevices and caulk cracks around baseboards and cabinets. Fill spaces surrounding the pipes using steel wool.
